Advent Calendar Day 24

To Øl – Jule Malt

The last official day of the advent is upon us (sshh… there is a day 25 in this calendar, but that’s a sneaky extra) and it brings a big bad boy all the way from Denmark in the form of Jule Malt, a 13% ABV Imperial Milk Stout. What on earth could there possibly be to dislike about this (spoilers, not much I reckon!)

I think we all knew it was going to be a big stout to cap off the advent calendar, didn’t we? That being said, I didn’t expect it to be as big, nor as boisterous as this one. Jule Malt pours like ice cream that has just melted, but I wouldn’t let the kids near this one (typically it is not recommended to let kids near any alcohol, but you catch my drift).

As soon as you crack this tyke you are hit by an almost visible cloud of booze, that were it not for the exceptional thickness, would likely evaporate instantaneously, this is a good thing. It is decadent and boozy with big hits of chocolate and cinnamon, that combine in an ultra-festive sip of pure joy. I loved this more than I can possibly convey.

Score – 4.75

As the video testifies, this monstrous 13% milk stout was probably not what my head needed after a day of family-oriented fun and games (it was Xmas eve after all!!) but sensibilities, or lack of them aside, this was a joyously festive tipple!!

The body on this was pavarotti-eque, breathing new life into the phrase chubby stout. Packed with spicy cinnamon and rich but slightly bitter cacao nibs - the lactose addition, which makes this a milk stout, provided creamy vanilla sweetness that really rounded this out and no-doubt contributed heavily to the beefy bod. A highly befitting send-off for what has been a wonderful advent calendar!!

Score - 4.5
