Advent Calendar Day 25

Amundsen Brewery - Christmas Morning

And last but not least, we unwrapped this cheeky lil' surprise beer that Premier Hop had thrown in for good measure - a 4.7% breakfast waffle stout from the Oslo based bryggeri.

Considering we synced this in the evening, I'm glad for the rather restrained ABV as an imperial stout would probably have sent us (further) overboard!!

Full of festive spices (nutmeg, clove, cinnamon), coffee, chocolate and a touch of sweet doughy waffle, this was an easy drinker that slotted perfectly into Xmas day. Loving the groovy Santa can design too!! It's been a real corker of a calendar and excellent value for money and I'm sure we will be tempted to repeat next year if the lovely folks at PH organise again.

I'm in two minds about Amundsen's stouts, the majority I have had have been underwhelming to say the least. However, unwrapping this little number on Christmas Day was a real joy. Sure, it wasn't as mind blowing as last night's offering, it lacked the thick velvety mouth feel I have come to expect in all stouts these days, however, with an ABV of 4.7% that was probably to be expected.

What wasn't expected was the amount of flavour crammed into this stout. I think I must have noticed a touch more waffle than Dan did. For me the bready, pastry savoury flavour carried the other spices through quite nicely and left them warming the tongue in a pleasant way.

Let's be honest, given the amount I had drunk already on Christmas Day, I was always going to rank this highly, but my exuberance should not hide the quality of this beer. It has re-awakened me to the quality that Amundsen can produce.

Score - 4.25
