Jack's BOTY countdown #9

¡Dios Mio, Que Bien!

We all know that this year is perhaps the biggest dog turd any of us have ever had to deal with, whether it is self-isolation, being furloughed or missing friends and family, it has just been shit, there’s not much else to say, is there?

On the bright side, all the time at home has meant that 2020 has given me the opportunity to knock back an inordinate number of great beers, not that my liver or waistline would thank me much for that!

That being the case though, whittling the vast array of beers I have sampled over the last 12 months down to a top 9 has been a difficult task. Anyway… enough of my yakkety yak.

Easing us into the top nine is Dios Mio! A 6% ABV IPA hopped with El Dorado and finished with lime zest and jalapeno. I’m a sucker for anything packing Mexican flavours and this beer was no exception, the lime zings across the tongue on the first sip before dissipating to reveal a crisp clean IPA flavour which mellows leaving a tingle of chili. This tingle builds and builds as you drink it, but never threatens to overpower the other flavours, and then the limey hit from each new sip refreshes even more.

This beer was dangerously good, it is basically summer in a can and would be the perfect accompaniment to a plate of gorditas, some tacos al pastor or just hanging out in the backyard with friends.

Maybe it's just a longing to go back to better times, but this beer really resonated with me this year and would have certainly placed higher if it weren't for the absolute juggernauts that are coming up next...
