Start talking, keep brewing

"Why can't you just get over it? It's in the past"

"These two statements often run together. Apparently, history is not there to be learned from, rather it's a large boulder to be gotten over.

Let's imagine for a second that humanity did indeed 'get over' - which in this case means forget - the past. Well, we'd need to learn to walk and talk and cook and hunt and plant crops all over again, we'd have to undo all of human invention and start from... when? What period exactly is it we are allowed to start our memory from?

Those that tell us to get over the past never seem to specify, but I'm eager to learn. In reality, of course, they just don't want to have any conversations they find uncomfortable." - Akala, Natives: Race and Class in the ruins of Empire

Breathing Conversations is a project headed up by Finback which looks to be a platform for ongoing conversations. I think this is an amazing project which highlights that every avenue is an avenue for dialogue and change. We are a global craft beer community and let's make this a community that welcomes everyone and excludes no-one. The profits from this beer are donated to Black Minds Matter.

Onto the beer itself then, well, I've had a few things from LHG now and (Blender aside) I've enjoyed all of them, Breathing Conversations is no different. This is a big powerful DIPA with bags of bitterness which is always something that is going to get me onside, Besides the bitterness there was a flavour note that took me a little while to recognise, but when I did it was something of a Eureka moment. Yes there are honey notes and white grape notes coming through on this, but to me, there was a taste of Galia melon to this beer, a slightly sweet, lively green flavour which dissipated before the bitterness kicked in. This is a banger.

For me this beer showcases what is so exciting about the whole craft beer scene, yeah there are mind-bendingly good beers out there, but also, this is a community that I think will engage in wider discussions, and maybe those discussions (over a beer or two) might start to make the world a nicer place. With beer like this in it, it's hard to not feel optimistic.
