Mango & Coconut Sour

I have had a few Track sours in my time and there is no doubt that these guys know their way around the style!!

Whatsmore, I would suggest that they tend to excel in that higher ABV bracket ('Uzon', 'Bluzon', 'Some Kind of Voodoo' and 'Boy in the Bubble' all spring to mind) so I was confident going in that this was going to be good, the only question was how good??

Well off the bat, the pour on this raised slight alarm bells. I wouldn't blink twice if someone passed this to me, offering a swig of their Berocca. Watery thin and vigorously bubbled, this certainly was a far cry from The Veil Nevercalm3 Extreme we reviewed recently. Perhaps they were going for a sort of hybrid of a more traditional crystalline gose style with a crisper tart finish as opposed to those pumped up thicc, juicy sours where you feel like you are knocking down a Frube with a chaser of sherbet?

Well looks aren't everything (as my wife will attest) and neither are first appearances, no matter what they tell you in Interview 101, so unperturbed I braved forth!

This was a sour that didn't just straddle the style, it fully committed and went hell for leather. Hey buster if you want your sours to taste like buttercups and rainbows with a heaping of sugar on top, this isn't for you! However, if you do want an unashamedly acidic assault on the back of your palate that will leave your teeth clenched and heart palpating (ok perhaps this last part is an over-exaggeration) then get yourself a can of this!!

There is some sweet, sticky mango and the slightest hint of creamy coconut coming through to offer a fleeting respite from the bitter bulldozing but for me, this sour strongly nods towards traditional lambic and gueuze territory - it's punchy, crisp, refreshing and would work best on a sweltering Summer's day. In many respects, it's an adult drink but unfortunately my taste buds are still playing in the sandpit, at least when it comes to sours, and I needed the adjuncts to play a bigger role in dialling it back!!
